Interview with Fanny Rosén & Asli Tunhammar
In honor of International Women's Day, we've had the privilege of interviewing the inspiring female founders behind some of our featured brands. At Seezona, we take pride in the fact that the majority of brands on our platform are female-founded. In this exclusive interview, meet Fanny Rosén & Asli Tunhammar, founders of the brand Ilouity. Gain insights into their perspective on navigating the world of fashion as female entrepreneurs and much more.
What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion design?
We've both been quite interested in fashion in our personal lives. During our pregnancy/postpartum journey, we bonded quickly over how, as soon as you're pregnant, your style immediately dissolves into a narrow selection of outdated and stereotypical outfit choices you are expected to "settle" for. We truly believe that pregnancy is a beautiful part of a woman's journey, and clothes should not be an issue or limitation for a woman to continue looking her stylish self. So, we decided to create our brand to elevate the maternity look, starting with the everyday and covering all the necessary items for a growing bump.
What, according to you, are the advantages and challenges of being a female designer?
So far, it's only been advantages! We are truly a "for women, by women" brand. Almost everyone in our entire production chain is female, and it's really fun seeing the unanimous conviction they all have in the idea and product. Customer feedback is, of course, the most rewarding. Hearing everyone's stories about how challenging it is to dress when pregnant and how excited they are about our products makes it all the better!
If you could give one piece of advice to young female designers, what would it be?
Trust your gut.
Do you have any specific women within the industry that you admire and get inspiration from?
So many! All from Emme Grede, whom we admire for her many accomplishments, to local friends who are e-comm business owners, such as Lovisa, who has the uber-cool @wornvintage brand. Given most of our customers are internationally spread out, we also stay connected to and inspired by bold women designers all over the world, like our dear friend Nadine Ghosn, @nadineghosnjewelry.
What does it mean to you to be a part of Seezona’s platform, among a curated selection of talented female designers?
We are very excited to be part of the Seezona family among so many cool brands around the globe! Ilouity has always been a brand we wanted to see among cool, stylish fashion brands so women can stick to their favorite platforms throughout their maternity journey. We can’t wait to do some fun pop-ups and collaborations with the Seezona community!
