Interview with Marie Philippe

In honor of International Women's Day, we've had the privilege of interviewing the inspiring female founders behind some of our featured brands. At Seezona, we take pride in the fact that the majority of brands on our platform are female-founded. In this exclusive interview, meet Marie Philippe, founder of the brand mas. Gain insights into her perspective on navigating the world of fashion as a female entrepreneur and much more.

What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion design?

My mother is my biggest influence. As a seamstress, she was always immersed in fashion magazines, staying curious about new trends and creating unique styles from her imagination. This created a desire for me to delve deeper into design. This desire in combination with my curiosity fueled my love for fashion and inspired me to create my brand and designs.

If you could give one piece of advice to young female designers, what would it be?

One advantage is the ability to break any barriers we may encounter. I find it inspiring to have the freedom to create in modern times. However, these advantages can also pose challenges, as breaking barriers is a challenge in itself. Being a female designer means consistently showcasing and proving our capabilities, with a perpetual need for competence. On the flip side, there's a strong sense of community among female designers, forming a tight-knit community.

What, according to you, are the advantages and challenges of being a female designer?

Keep your eyes on your goal and vision. Don't let distractions or insecurities steer you away from your goals - even though they might feel far away sometimes, they might be just in front of you. Also, make sure to not stress things, it’s better to build your brand slowly and stably.

Do you have any specific women within the industry that you admire and get inspiration from?

Many women inspire me, but I particularly draw inspiration from Gabriella Hearst. She pushes the envelope, demonstrating that sustainability can be synonymous with luxury. I share a similar vision, applying it on a smaller scale. Currently, I'm also following and getting inspiration from Kelly Rutherford - a woman of class, essence, presence, and mind. She has also been a supporter of Mas which makes me very happy.

What does being a part of Seezona’s platform, among a curated selection of talented female designers mean to you?

Being a part of Seezona's platform signifies accomplishment, progress, and growth, as well as an opportunity to be recognized. Being acknowledged alongside other female designers adds significance to Mas' work and core values. All these elements combined make collaborating a delightful experience.
