Interview with Miki Cheung

Canadian-born fashion blogger and influencer Miki Cheung (also known as Miki à la mode) is a true street style photographers’ favourite, often seen in the best-dressed lists during fashion weeks. With more than 37k followers on Instagram, Miki is a true style icon that we can't get enough of. What we love most about her style is the way that she seamlessly mixes colours, textures, and silhouettes - creating unique and unexpected outfits. Get to know Miki better and discover her favourite brands from Seezona in the interview below.

How would you describe your style?

Chic with a little bit of edge. I like to experiment, try out new trends and wear a lot of colours. I like things that are a little more sexy and androgynous, but there are also days when I feel like wearing something more feminine. I am not afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to fashion, but it always needs to be something I feel comfortable in and that suits my style.

Some pieces have the power to make you feel confident in any situation. Do you have such pieces in your wardrobe? Tell us about what makes them so special to you.

Yes, absolutely! I think everyone should have a ''power piece'' in their wardrobe. I have at least a few in my wardrobe. One of my favourites happens to be a satin blazer from Saint Laurent - I love the strong shoulders, and the cut is so flattering. On days that I may not feel the most confident, that blazer makes me feel my best. I also love my Balenciaga knife pumps. Heels make me walk taller, and I love wearing a statement colour. Also, I was with my husband when I got them, which makes them extra special to me. He’s always been my strongest supporter.

When did you first realize that fashion had a special meaning to you? Do you have a particular memory that you could share with us?

I first realized that fashion would have a special meaning to me when I was in university, where I worked part-time at a publication, and my sister and I were invited to a runway show. It was the first time I had ever seen clothes that beautiful, telling a story as they were coming down the runway. From that moment I got a different view of fashion.

The first defining moment that changed the trajectory of what I wanted to do in life was when I was on the computer researching fashion shows. I remember stumbling upon Elie Saab’s Spring/Summer 2005 Collection and I was so taken by all the beautiful pieces. It made me want to discover more, and from then I knew then I wanted to see an Haute Couture runway show in person.

What does luxury mean to you? Explain how you implement it in your everyday life and style.

Time is for me the greatest luxury in life. Luxury to me is having the time and means to do what I want and to be able to live the life that I desire. I like to experience things and discover beautiful places, and always make it a priority to plan trips and travel on a regular basis. I am fortunate enough to now have someone to share this with and to travel for work.

Who are the female role models inspiring you in your style and career?

I don’t have any particular role model that I look up to. I am inspired by women who are successful and work very hard to get where they are. I am a strong believer in surrounding myself with supportive individuals and successful people. When I see people who have way more going on in their life than I do and are wildly successful, it pushes me to work harder!

Last but not least: which are your favourite designers on seezona.com and what do you love the most about them?

I love AGGI! I just want every single piece that the brand creates, and can see myself wearing their entire collection, season after season.

Atoir is another designer that I love. When I travel someplace with a bit of sun or have a cocktail party to attend, I like to look for pieces from this brand. Their cuts are incredibly flattering on the body, and make me feel so confident. They’re also very affordable, which is a bonus.

According to me, all of these designers make pieces you want to keep in your closet to wear over and over again, year after year.
